APPG Media Group relaunches at Annual Reception featuring prominent names from the media sector

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Media officially relaunched last night at its highly anticipated Annual Reception. The event, which took place at the House of Commons, attracted over 200 key figures from the creative industries, media regulators and members from both Houses of Parliament, who gathered to network and discuss the sector’s prosperity and expansion.

Following a drinks reception as the guests arrived, Rosie Cooper MP, Chair of the Group, made introductory remarks and welcomed all friends and colleagues, before introducing the three guest speakers.

Sir Peter Bazalgette, television executive and ‘Guru’ of the Creative Industries, commenced the speeches with an insight into the future of public service broadcasting, championing its potential as a pioneering force for the media sector.

Next came Jonathan Oxley, interim CEO of Ofcom, who gave an insightful speech about Ofcom’s increasing role as a regulator for digital media, reflecting the digital revolution that has impacted the media sector so significantly.

Finally, Baroness Morgan of Coates, the Guest of Honour of the Annual Reception, closed the speeches discussing the strength and power of the British creative industries, reflected by statistics which demonstrate the media sector’s extraordinary contribution to the British economy. She also praised the exciting working events programme established by the APPG Media Group for the upcoming year.

The All-Party Parliamentary Media Group is a forum for discussion within Parliament on public policy as it affects the media sector. Its membership is drawn from all political parties and both Houses of Parliament. The Group meets regularly to receive an address and have a short discussion with key players from the media industry, its regulatory agencies, and government ministers. The APPG for Media makes a valuable contribution to raising the quality of debate on media policy in Parliament.
